What is your background?
We are Julie and Julie, the founders of Brin Brun. We met while working in our previous jobs as fashion designers. It didn’t take long for us to realize that we shared many passions. Of course, there was the desire to create our own business, but above all, the wish to share our love for creativity. In the spring of 2022, we decided to take the leap and embark on this adventure together!
What inspired you to create Brin Brun?
The pandemic, like for many, led us to reflect on our life choices. We wanted to return to the essentials and reconnect with what truly passionate us: creativity. Our goal was to help people take time for themselves through creative moments. That’s how we came up with the idea of turnkey kits that allow anyone to easily achieve results they can be proud of.
What are you most proud of?
Personally (Julie Rachel), I am really proud to have created our brand from scratch. What makes me even prouder is that there aren’t many other companies in Quebec that offer such a variety in their DIY kits. Most focus on a single type of creative project, whereas we provide multiple avenues to explore, which makes the experience even more enriching.
For me (Julie), what I am most proud of is seeing the results of the projects completed by our customers. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing we’ve successfully communicated the techniques through our kits! And when people tell us they discovered a new passion because of it, that’s really the icing on the cake!
Can you tell us about the process of creating a kit?
Thanks to our background in fashion, we are always on the lookout for market trends. For example, as soon as we noticed the resurgence of crochet, we immediately thought of creating a kit to teach you how to do it.
Next, we go through several steps: testing the techniques, making samples, sourcing the best raw materials, creating the video tutorial, and assembling the boxes. We truly do everything from A to Z in our workshop to provide you with a turnkey product.
What is, or are, the biggest challenges in your profession?
One of our biggest challenges is having to wear many hats at once and managing everything ourselves. We go from being accountants to teachers, website writers, photographers, and much more...
Do you have an anecdote or a secret of your craft to share with our readers?
Our company name is a bit of a mix of the two of us. Julie Maron (little sprout) is the little monkey that climbs everywhere, always ready to find solutions; she has a talent for communicating naturally. Always positive, she is a true ray of sunshine. She wants to introduce people to a variety of different creative projects and help them find their artistic passions. Julie Rachel Baril (big brunette) is a quiet strength, calm, and a gentle presence that we enjoy being around. An artist at heart and a bohemian at times, she aims to inspire people to take more time for themselves and discover the benefits of creating. Helping people create moments of relaxation is very important to her.
