Our Commitment to the Community and the Environment

At Arloca, we believe it is our duty to act in an eco-responsible and ethical manner. Here’s how we uphold our commitment:

1. Supporting local communities

Local Purchasing: ALL the products we sell in our boutique come exclusively from Quebec and Canadian artisans and producers.
Local Furnishing: All the furniture and shelves in our boutique were designed by a Quebec artisan. Most of the other displays were handcrafted by Sébastien, one of the co-owners of the boutique. Sébastien also built the wooden panels that make up the storefront.
Local Partnerships: To support local businesses, we source our supplies from neighborhood stores whenever possible. For example, we purchase tools and office supplies from La Boîte à Clous and Hamster on Rue Beaubien. We also lend our ceramic dishware to Épicerie Conserva for their social media photos, among other collaborations.

2. Environmental commitment

Sustainable Products: Whenever possible, we select suppliers and artisans who offer products made from sustainable and recycled materials (e.g., clothing made from recycled wool or bamboo rayon, handbags crafted from fabric and leather scraps, etc.).
Waste Reduction: We encourage recycling and exclusively use eco-friendly packaging. Whenever possible, we reuse the cardboard boxes from our own shipments to pack your orders.
Green Energy: We strive to reduce our carbon footprint by using a bicycle courier for deliveries on the Island of Montreal. Whenever feasible, we prioritize suppliers located nearby. The entire boutique is illuminated with LED bulbs.
Second-Hand Office Furniture: The furniture we use in the back office (desks, chairs, armchairs, etc.) is second-hand, acquired from a City of Montreal sale in 2019.
Refurbished Electronics: All our computers come from Insertech, a Montreal-based social enterprise that provides refurbished computers while supporting professional reintegration programs.

3. Ethics and transparency

Working Conditions: We are committed to working only with suppliers who uphold fair labor standards.
Work-Life Balance: It is very important to us that all employees feel comfortable within the boutique and the team. We prioritize open communication, regularly organize team outings, and offer flexible leave policies to ensure everyone can enjoy their personal time.
Transparency: We openly share information about our practices and initiatives to build trust with our customers.
